Group Leader
Jackson Musuuza:
Jackson Musuuza was born, raised and went to school in Uganda, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from Mbarara University Medical School in 2005. Most of his work has been in public health especially in the area of HIV/AIDS in the rural and under privileged communities of Uganda. He is currently pursuing a Masters of Public Health degree at Case Western Reserve University. Jackson will be volunteering at Kairos Charity Community Development Organisation in Gulu, Uganda.
Young Leaders
Alexis Cooke:

Alexis Cooke is currently a Master’s student at the School of Public Health at the University of California, Berkeley. She hopes to work on structural interventions to improve the health of marginalized communities. Alexis’ previous experience has focused on participatory research for community improvement, and she hopes to continue in this vein with the incorporation of new media tools and participatory methods. Alexis will be volunteering at Kairos Charity Community Development Organisation in Gulu, Uganda.
Toi Carrion:

Toi Carrion is a Brooklyn born, Boston bred graduate of Barnard College-Columbia University. After double-majoring in English and Africana Studies, Toi completed two undergraduate theses that combined her interests in literature, women’s issues, and black studies entitled, “She Has Two Legs, Not Four”: A Black Feminist Reading of Infanticide in Anglo-African and African American Novels; and Eve is Mary’s Mother: Womanism in Toni Morrison’s Paradise. After what she expects to be an amazing Summer in Uganda, Toi intends to work toward receiving a J.D. and an MPA in International Affairs. Toi will be volunteering at Kairos Charity Community Development Organisation in Gulu, Uganda.
Hieu Pham:

Hieu Pham was born in Vietnam but he has lived in New York City since the age of 10. He is a recent graduate of Columbia University where he majored in Biology. Throughout his four years at Columbia, he was fortunate enough to travel to many different countries and witnessed many problems pertaining to human rights and public health which piqued his interest in the field. He will be attending Bloomberg School of Public Health in the fall 2010 pursuing a Master of Health Science in International Health. Hieu will be volunteering at Kairos Charity Community Development Organisation in Gulu, Uganda.
Tonja Khabir:

Tonja Khabir is a native of Macon, Georgia and is a current Master of Public Health student at Morehouse School of Medicine. Her experience in public health and love for culture inspired her to delve into a career in international health. Tonja has a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Fisk University of Nashville, Tennessee. Tonja will be volunteering at Kairos Charity Community Development Organisation in Gulu, Uganda.
Sharon Kei Yan Fan:

Growing up in Sunnyside, New York City, Sharon was exposed to many different cultures at a young age. Her participation in a community health internship with under-served, uninsured immigrant populations in South Philadelphia and continued work in immigrant communities has significantly shaped her view of healthcare access as well as various abroad experiences in Hong Kong, China, and Kenya. As a dual degree MPH and Family Nurse Practitioner student at the University of Pennsylvania, she hopes to use her clinical experience to further holistic healthcare access locally and globally. In her free time, she enjoys playing a carefree game of ultimate Frisbee, reading, teaching others about health, and dreaming of different ways to improve the world. Sharon will be volunteering at Kairos Charity Community Development Organisation in Gulu, Uganda.
