One World 2007
The One World Foundation has collaborated with NGOs and leaders in the forefront of their respective fields in Cambodia and Mali. One World Young Leaders are placed in an NGO based upon (i) the need of the NGO and (ii) the skills and interests of the One World Young Leader. Below is a list of NGOs with whom One World Young Leaders have been placed.

Country Coordinator
Phatry Derek Pan
Phatry Pan holds a bachelor’s degree in Southeast Asian Studies and a minor in human rights from the University of Washington in Seattle. He has been actively involved with the Khmer American community in Washington state with organizations such as Rajana Society, Khmer Student Association, and the Cambodian Cultural Museum and Killing Fields Memorial. Additionally, he serves as public relations coordinator for the world’s largest Khmer website, KhmerConnection.

Dimple Rana
Dimple Rana is a Gujarati Indian-American woman, who has grown up with the Cambodian American, refugee community in Revere, Massachusetts. Over the past 11 years Dimple has been actively involved in community organizing, social justice education, gang peacemaking, social, educational, and economic support within the Cambodian American community. Since 2002, when the US and Cambodia signed a repatriation agreement regarding the repatriation of over 1,500 Cambodian-American refugees convicted of “aggravated felonies”, she has been fighting deportations of Cambodian Americans.
Young Leaders
John Crews
John Crews of Providence, RI comes to the delegation with the passion and enthusiasm for youth leadership. After studying English literature at Brown University, John returned to Providence to work under the auspices of national Campus Compact. He is also active with a number of local advocacy and reform efforts, most notably in the role of board member for PrYSM (Providence Youth Student Movement). He plans to enroll in law school in August 2007. John blogged with One World experience at John’s Blog.
Crystal Jones
Crystal Jones is an undergraduate student and a proud member of the Class of 2009 at Lincoln University (PA), the first Historically Black University. Her major is English education, and she aspires to teach on the secondary level upon graduation. Crystal wants to teach students who need the guidance of a well-trained and compassionate educator.
Lucia Alena Diaz-Martin
Lucia Alena Diaz-Martin is finishing her second year at Yale University. She is an anthropology major, and her main interests in this field pertain to how women’s rights are affected by globalization, cultural exchange and hybridization.
Laila Mohamed
Laila Mohamed was born in Sudan on May 17, 1986. She is the older of two children. In 1996 her family arrived to the United States. She is currently an undergraduate at the University of Iowa where she studies linguistics and Japanese.
Narith Ol
Narith Ol hails from Cambodia but was raised in Rochester, MN. She graduated from Macalester College in St. Paul, MN, with majors in Communications/Media Studies and Sociology. In her spare time, she enjoys photographing plants and animals, especially her handsome black cat, Tom.
Vidal Seegobin
Vidal Seegobin is a Canadian studying International Development at the American University in Washington DC. His specific area of focus is economic globalization and its effects on developing nations.

Mieko McKay
Mieko McKay is the Country Coordinator for One World Mali. Mieko is a Global Health Program Fellow with USAID in Mali. Mieko is a graduate of Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health where she completed her Masters in Public Health. Mieko is a returned Peace Corps Volunteer who served as a primary health education volunteer in Senegal, West Africa.

Julayne Austin
Julayne Austin has a combined seven years of experience with non-profits. She has contributed to community development projects throughout the country and in Costa Rica. Julayne holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Southern California and a Bachelor’s degree in Communication and French from the University of Pennsylvania.

Young Leaders
Rodney L. Smith
Rodney L. Smith began a career at Goldman Sachs in New York immediately after graduation. He left the financial services sector to pursue his passion towards social justice and is currently a program associate with the Student Sponsorship Programme in Johannesburg, South Africa. Rodney holds a B.S. degree in Economics from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

Andrew Lloyd
Andrew Lloyd is a native of Long Island New York and a recent graduate from St. John’s University. For over nine years, he has been actively involved in various community outreach programs and projects. Andrew is the youth director in Hollis Queens of a community based program called Future Stars, a youth outreach program of the Hollis Presbyterian Church.
